Application and benefits

HYDROFEST microcement is ideal for finishing bathroom and kitchen walls, including wet areas such as showers or splash-prone spots. It can be applied directly over existing tiles.

Suitable as a finish for:

  • Bathroom walls
  • Kitchen walls
  • Walls in wet areas in restaurants and service premises
  • Walls with existing tiles
  • Kitchen splashback above the countertop

Benefits of HydroFest microcement:

  • Water resistance – the HYDROFEST system provides durable protection against moisture, so it can be used in wet areas
  • Seamless finish – no joints means not only a clean look, but also easier cleaning and fewer places where mold can develop
  • Delicate, subtle finish – creates an elegant, modern wall texture
  • Time-saving – ready to use, factory-colored microcement, which does not require on-site pigmentation
  • Excellent adhesion – can be used on various surfaces, such as concrete or ceramic tiles
  • Easy maintenance – clean with water and neutral pH products
  • Optional antibacterial coating – when Nano Silver Plus is added to the lacquer layers, antibacterial properties can be achieved, ideal for hygienic bathrooms

Short application guide

Applying HydroFest microcement on tiled walls takes 4 steps:

  1. Substrate preparation
remove silicone, dull the tiles, fill the joints and prime the surface with Fest Grunt.
  2. Substrate reinforcement
apply FEST KONTAKT bonding bridge and embed fiberglass mesh (first layer with mesh, second without mesh).
  3. Microcement application
apply two coats of HydroFest microcement.
  4. Impregnation
finish the surface by applying two coats of PU Fest 2K Carbon varnish.

What’s included in the kit?

A complete kit for finishing 10 m² of wall surface with waterproof HydroFest microcement.

  • Fest Grunt (1 kg) – a priming product that evens out substrate absorbency and improves adhesion of subsequent layers. One coat is sufficient.

  • HYDROFEST microcement (10 kg) – ready to use, water-resistant, factory-colored microcement. Sufficient for two coats.

  • sealer PU FEST 2K CARBON (1 kg component A + 0.08 kg component B) – a two-component protective sealer with very high hardness, resistant to abrasion and dirt. One coat is sufficient; for maximum durability, two coats are recommended. Choose the option with the additional varnish to ensure full surface protection. [sealer included in the kit is designed to protect walls and other vertical surfaces exposed to occasional contact with water. It is not recommended for use on horizontal surfaces where water may stand for extended periods (e.g. shower floors, shower shelves, shower seats and countertops where water may collect).]

  • FEST KONTAKT (15 kg) + fiberglass mesh (10 m²). FEST KONTAKT is a bonding bridge in which fiberglass mesh can be embedded to strengthen the surface and protect it against cracks. The product is sufficient for two coats.

Colour selection

microcement HydroFest is factory-colored and does not require the addition of pigments during use. The colorants are mixed during production, which ensures a uniform shade and a consistent, aesthetic finish. Simply choose the right colour from our standard colour chart.

You can also order a colour outside the standard palette. We offer microcement HYDROFEST in shades from the RAL palette (over 200 colours) and the NCS palette (almost 2000 colours), giving you full flexibility in designing and personalizing your interior.

FAQs
How does HydroFest differ from other Festfloor microcements?
HydroFest microcement is water-resistant and designed for wet areas. If you would like to learn more about the differences between our microcement systems, we have prepared a special comparison: Comparison of microcement systems
Can HydroFest microcement be applied to tiles?
Yes – after proper preparation of the substrate, microcement adheres perfectly to ceramics. Watch our video showing step-by-step application of HydroFest microcement to ceramic tiles in a bathroom
Is HydroFest microcement suitable for floors with underfloor heating?
Yes, HydroFest is compatible with underfloor heating. It has good thermal conductivity and flexibility. However, it is important to remember that the underfloor heating system should be turned on, tested, and turned off at least 7 days before applying the microcement.
When do I need to reinforce the substrate before applying HydroFest microcement?
It is advisable to reinforce the substrate when: - it is weak or cracked, - there is underfloor heating, - you want to apply microcement to ceramic tiles, - you plan to finish a kitchen or bathroom countertop with microcement.
Is HydroFest microcement suitable for use in showers with linear drainage?
Yes. HydroFest is a water-resistant microcement, making it ideal for wet areas such as shower enclosures with linear drainage, without the need for full waterproofing. It only requires the use of sealing tapes at the joints between walls, walls and floors, and around the drain.
Is HydroFest suitable for use in rooms where hygiene is particularly important?
Yes. Thanks to its seamless structure and ease of cleaning, HydroFest is ideal for bathrooms, wet areas, and other places requiring a high level of hygiene. Additionally, it is possible to add Nano Silver Plus to the varnish – it contains silver particles with antibacterial properties, which further increases the safety of use of the surface.
Is it difficult to apply microcement in the bathroom yourself?
For beginners, we recommend watching the Festfloor instructional videos on our YouTube channel, here. There you will find detailed step-by-step videos, including the application of HydroFest microcement on bathroom walls, as well as a video showing the application of microcement on ceramic tiles. This is the best way to understand the entire process and avoid mistakes.
How to clean microcement in the bathroom?
For everyday cleaning, just use water and a mild detergent, such as FestCleaner. To remove soap and limescale deposits, use our FestCalc product. → See "How to clean microcement? Microcement care guide"
How do you apply FEST Kontakt?
FEST Kontakt should be applied evenly with a trowel to a clean and dry substrate. When reinforcing walls with fiberglass mesh, it should be embedded in a freshly applied layer of FEST Kontakt. The drying time for one layer is approximately 4–6 hours at room temperature. All information about the product and its application can be found in the technical data sheet.
Can FEST Kontakt be used on ceramic tiles?
Yes. FEST Kontakt works great as a bonding layer on ceramic tile walls.
What is FEST Kontakt used for?
FEST Kontakt is a ready-to-use bonding bridge with added quartz aggregate. It provides excellent adhesion on smooth, difficult substrates such as concrete, gypsum boards, and ceramic tiles. It is used as a first reinforcing layer before applying microcement, decorative plasters, and other finishing compounds on walls.
